  • The field test assessment window for Health and Physical Education will be open for participating districts from March 15 through April 13, 2018

  • The National Assessments in Health and Physical Education are two field tests created in a partnership between SHAPE America and American Institutes for Research (AIR) for students in grades 5, 8, and High School (9–12) .

  • There is no cost to participate in the field test.

  • Districts must commit to participating in the field test by February 16, 2018. Districts can sign up by filling out the form at SHAPE National Assessments in Health and Physical Education Learn More page.

  • No. The goal of the field is not to assess performance but rather to gather feedback about the need for a national assessments in Health and Physical Education.

  • Although assessments are being administered at the 5th, 8th, & high school grade levels, questions from lower grades will be included. For example, the grade 5 assessment will include grade 3 and 4 questions. Therefore the assessment can be given to students in grades other than 5, 8 and high school (9–12).

  • Students will need access to a computer or tablet that has been set up with AIR's secure browser.

  • The assessments are designed to be delivered and completed by students within one class period, per subject area. Each assessment will take approximately 30 minutes for a student to complete.

  • Please return back for more information. SHAPE America and American Institutes for Research (AIR) will provide a schedule to participating districts based on the plan administration window.

FAQ - Practice & Training TestsPractice & Training Tests

  • Computers, laptops, netbooks, and tablets can all be used if they meet the system requirements. See the System Requirements document and Technical Specifications Manual available in the Technical Coordinators Resources section for more detailed information.

  • No, it is not required for practice tests. If the student has not yet been added to the Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE), they can still take the practice or training tests using a supported web browser in the guest mode.

  • There are a few reasons why a student may see this error message when using the secure browser: Check the Session ID

    • If a student has a session ID that starts with "SHAPE" (example, SHAPE-1111-1), this means that the proctor started an operational session, not a practice test session. Restart the session in the TA Training Site and share the new session ID. Check the Secure Browser
    • If your students are using the practice/training tests with the secure browser, direct them to select, Click here to go to the Practice and Training Test Site.

Note: You can also visually check to see if they are still on the operational secure browser page if you see "Student Testing Site" about the sign in form.

  • If you  need to administer a practice or training test in secure mode, you must first ensure that the students have the correct secure browser version installed. Next, the TA will need to start a test session in the TA Practice & Training site. Once you have selected the specific tests and approved students for testing, they will be able to take an online test in an environment that mimics the field tests. For more information, refer to the the Test Administrator User Guide,Test Administration Quick Guide and training resources on the portal.
